The Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) will launch the 2018 weeklong “Battle of the Badges” blood drive challenge between the Rockford Fire and Police Departments on Monday, June 11th. Donors can donate Mon-Thu (6/11-6/14) at either of the RRVBC Donor Centers in Rockford, 419 N. Sixth St. or 3065 N. Perryville Rd. and pick which department to credit their donation to. Special edition t-shirts will be given to all those that register to give blood on behalf of the fire or police departments, while supplies last. The challenge will continue on through Friday, June 15th with a blood drive at the City of Rockford Wellness Center, 120 N. 3rd Street 10am-2pm. RRVBC will track donations, and the challenge will culminate with the losing department choosing to put someone from the department in a dunk tank at the blood drive at approximately 1:15pm on Friday.
“Battle of the Badges is a joint effort to heighten awareness about the need for blood donations, and to assist the Rock River Valley Blood Center in maintaining an adequate supply throughout the summer months. Hectic summer schedules and travel take their toll on the blood supply. We are so grateful to the police and fire unions that have donated the tshirts for this event and helping to make it a big success,” stated Jennifer Bowman, RRVBC, PR & Marketing Manager.
