Rock River Valley Blood Center Urges Type O-negative Donors to Give in Advance of the Annual Community Event

The Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) is promoting the Alpine Kiwanis Club’s annual Brat Days by giving donors the opportunity to receive a free meal pass as a thank-you for their lifesaving contribution.

The drive will take place on Thursday, July 10, at the following donor centers:

  • Downtown Donor Center: 418 N. Longwood St., Rockford, IL 61107
  • Perryville Donor Center: 3065 N. Perryville Road, Suite 105, Rockford, IL 61114

RRVBC encourages all eligible donors, especially those with Type O-negative blood, to donate. Type O is the universal blood type and is critical in emergencies and trauma care. RRVBC is the sole supplier of blood to 14 regional hospitals and relies on local donors to maintain a stable supply.

As a special appreciation, donors will receive a free meal ticket to enjoy lunch at Alpine Kiwanis Brat Days on Friday, July 11, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at CherryVale Mall (upper level facing Perryville Road), 7200 Harrison Avenue, Rockford. Meal options include a Johnsonville brat, all-beef Johnsonville hot dog, meatless barbecue, or a vegan/vegetarian Impossible brat, along with Mrs. Fisher’s chips and a Pepsi product or bottled water.

“Brat Days is a cherished regional event that embodies community, tradition, and generosity,” said Lisa Entrikin, CEO of the Rock River Valley Blood Center. “One blood donation has the power to save up to three lives – a reminder that even the smallest acts, like giving blood or supporting this event, can create a lasting ripple of hope throughout our entire community.”
